Class of 1958 - Honorary. Doug Schaerrer. [Students who attended BYH or BYJrH but for one reason or another graduated from other schools.] His brother, Tom Schaerrer, is a member of the BYH Class of 1963, and lives in Sherman Oaks, California. @2003 Their mother: Madge McMullin Schaerrer Kennedy. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS WIFE'S OBITUARY: Barbara Lee Berge Schaerrer - 1940 ~ 2013. Barbara was called home on May 29, 2013, after a brief and valiant battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Doug Schaerrer; children, Bart Schaerrer (MaryLynn), Sydney Matthews (Blake), Shelly Eaton, and Cade Schaerrer (Keena); brother, Lee Berge (Steph); sister, Glenda Gianelo (Gus); and 13 grandchildren. Born on February 1, 1940, in Payson, Utah, to Glen E. and Beulah M. Berge, she was the first of three children. Her father was determined to raise a baseball player and Barbara was up to the task. Glen played and coached semi-professional baseball and Barbara served as the "bat boy" for his teams. She became an excellent player and has played and coached the sport - which is, by far, her favorite. Her love of sports led her to earn a degree in Physical Education from Utah State University. She taught PE for several years - first at Camelback High School in the Phoenix area, and then Lincoln Junior High School in Orem. She loved working with youth in those settings. Barbara married her long-time friend and sweetheart, Doug Schaerrer, in the Logan Temple in August of 1963. Together they had many adventures building and operating businesses, serving in church callings, completing a full-time mission, and working in the St. George Temple. In recent years, Barbara focused her attention on her grandchildren. They loved spending time with her and would look forward with great anticipation to back-to-school shopping with Grandma each fall. Barbara made a point of attending every possible event where a grandchild would be playing in a sport or performing on stage. In lieu of a viewing, a celebration of Barbara's life will be held at the Blake & Sydney Matthews residence on Monday evening, June 3. 2013, from 6 pm to 8 pm, at 465 West 3540 North, Provo, Utah. Funeral services will begin at 11 am, Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at the Lindon 17th Ward chapel, located at 1051 East 200 South, Lindon, Utah under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove. The family will be available to greet visitors, beginning at 9:30 am, prior to the funeral. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com [Provo Daily Herald, May 30, 2013] |
