Alternate email: RichardS@provo.edu ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS WIFE'S OBITUARY: Annette Steenblik Sheffield, 49, of Provo, died May 10, 2007 of complications from cancer. Born in Salt Lake City to Ralph and Joyce Steenblik, Annette graduated from West High School. She attended college at Ricks, the U of U, and BYU, and ultimately graduated in Elementary Education from Arizona State University. She married Richard W. Sheffield of Provo in the Salt Lake Temple in 1979. Shortly thereafter they moved to Tempe, Arizona where they lived for 20 years prior to returning to Provo in 2000. Annette said that her greatest joy is being a wife and mother. This perspective and her natural talents greatly blessed the lives of her husband and their seven children, Clinton (Lisa), Natalie (JJ), Julianne (Joe), Laura, Alicia, Eric, and Ryan. Skilled in the time-honored crafts of sewing, canning, and bread making, she possessed even greater gifts in molding minds and spirits. She supported her children in their activities and aspirations, counseled with them in practical and comforting ways, taught them to enjoy life and associations, and helped them believe in their potential. Annette loved being outdoors, whether working in her gardens or hiking with young women and family. She knew how to work hard and complete plans and projects. She had a childlike enthusiasm for life and her avocations. Annette served in many teaching and leadership callings in every auxiliary of The LDS Church and made significant contributions to other civic and school endeavors. Extremely observant of others' needs, she responded selflessly and privately. Annette made people feel comfortable and welcome in her presence. She left a lasting influence and established lifelong friendships with youth and adults. Through the difficult struggles with cancer since 2004, Annette exhibited extraordinary faith and grit, while maintaining a joyful and positive perspective. She sustained purpose, excitement, and enjoyment in her life and continued touching the lives of her family and others. Annette is survived by her husband, parents, children, two grandchildren, and by her siblings, Scott Steenblik, Lloyd Steenblik, Cynthia Carlisle, Marcell Baker, and Karl Steenblik. Funeral services were held in the Oak Hills Stake Center in Provo on Thursday, May 17, 2007. Condolences may be sent to family.sheffield@gmail.com [Deseret News, Tuesday, May 15, 2007.] Remarried in 2009 to Dr. Tamara Lewis (Sheffield). Updated @Jun2012. |
