Their father, Bryce B. Orton was raised in Parowan, and he served during World War II in the Army Air Corps. A graduate of Brigham Young University, he received advanced degrees at the universities of Oregon and Washington. He taught at Ricks College and in the College of Business at Brigham Young University, where he served as Assistant Dean and Acting Dean. He also served on the Provo School Board and in the Utah House of Representatives. |

Class of 1970. Patti Porter. What great memories! I started out in the BYU Nursery School, went to Wasatch, then waited until Second Grade to get a spot in the BYU Elementary School. I attended B.Y. High through the 10th Grade, and then was deeply saddened when BYH was closed. I graduated early from Provo High, then went to BYU and graduated with a BS in Early Childhood Education in 1973. ~ ~ Patti married Paul Hintze, BYH Class of 1968. He was the last senior class president at BY High. Biography: Susan Sessions Rugh specializes in the history of the nineteenth century and in the history of travel and tourism. She teaches undergraduate courses in the antebellum period and the Civil War, and graduate seminars in 19th century history. She is the author of Our Common Country: Family Farming, Community and Culture in Nineteenth-Century Illinois (Indiana University Press, 2001), and has published articles on the history of childbirth, pioneer Mormon women, and agrarian culture in the Midwest. She received the Mollie and Karl G. Butler Young Scholar Award, Charles Redd Center for Western Studies, Brigham Young University, 2003-2006; and was Visiting Fellow at the Institute for the Study of the American West, Autry Museum of Western Heritage, Los Angeles, California, in June 2003. Her current project is tentatively titled: "White Lines: Race, Religion and the Family Vacation in Cold War America."
