Years of attendance not yet known. Alice Bown. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Alice Mildred Bown Johnson. Provo, Utah; Salem Oregon - Alice was born in Provo, Utah on May 29, 1919 to Emma Newell and J. Leo Bown. The youngest of five siblings, she spent her summers riding horses and playing house in the sandstone formations of the Utah badlands on the family ranch. Her mother insisted they come back to town during the fall and winter so they could attend formal schooling. Family has been Alice's rock during good times and bad. She married Rulon Johnson on August 29, 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were divorced in 1968. They had four children, Jeff, Julie, Ella and Brenn. The family moved to Portland, Oregon in 1953 where Alice supported Rulon through dental school and worked for Portland Public Schools first as a secretary then as a librarian. She was a terrific cook, wonderful seamstress and appreciative of nature and she taught her children to be resourceful and creative. She moved from Portland to Hawaii in 1967 where she worked as a "Kelly Girl" in Honolulu and then became librarian for a private school on the island of Oahu. In 1969 she moved to Grand Junction, Colorado to be near her sister, Emmy, and other family members. She became an administrative assistant for Mesa Junior College for 15 years. This job gave her superb organizational skills and a venue to shine. She retired in 1984 and devoted her full time to her family. In October 2001 she moved to Salem, Oregon where she resided until her passing on July 14, 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Newell, Bud, and Casey Bown, her daughter Julie Kristian and grandson Brandon. Surviving are son Jeffrey Johnson and wife Ann of Salem, Oregon; daughter Ella Johnson and husband Gary of Salem, Oregon; daughter Brenn and husband Mark Luff of Grand Junction, Colorado; her sister Emmy Meacham and husband Ray of Grand Junction, Colorado; nine grandchildren, and other relatives. She was the sweetest of mothers and was loved dearly by her children and extended family. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 20, 2002, at the Grand Junction Fifth Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; 2542 G Road; Grand Junction, Colorado. Barbara Bown. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: Kim Homer Peterson, 47, of Spanish Fork, Utah, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2003 from injuries suffered in an airplane accident. He was born on June 26, 1955 in Rigby, Idaho, the son of George Stephen and Theda Staker Peterson. He married Barbara Lynn Bown on May 15, 1981 in the Provo LDS Temple. Kim was educated in Spanish Fork schools and graduated from Spanish Fork High School. He attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, and Brigham Young University, graduating in accounting. He served an LDS Mission to the Denmark Copenhagen Mission. He was very active in the community, serving on the Spanish Fork City Council, as President of the Chamber of Commerce, as president of the Jaycees, and as Fiesta Days Chairman, as well as in other civic capacities. He is the owner of Peterson Black and Associates, a CPA firm in Spanish Fork. He conducted audits for various cities, counties and businesses throughout Utah. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served as high councilman, in the bishopric, and various other capacities, with his most recent calling being Young Men's president in his ward, where he had a special interest in the youth. The love of his life was his family and being with his children. He always shared his other joys with them: flying, horseback riding, the outdoors, hunting, fishing and "jeeping." A deep and abiding testimony of the Savior and service to others were the hallmarks of his life. Kim is survived by his wife of Spanish Fork; five sons and one daughter, Cameron James, Jordan Shawn, Taylor Cole Armando, Parker Ryan, Isaiah Desmond Cooper, Ashlyn Presleigh Peterson, all of Spanish Fork; his mother, Theda of Spanish Fork; three brothers and three sisters, Shannon (Kerry) Openshaw, Spanish Fork, Stephen (Phyllis) Peterson, Salem, Trudy (Noel) Cook, Pleasant Grove, Kelly (Sherri) Peterson, Spanish Fork, Rick (Camille) Peterson, Draper, Scott (Bonnie) Peterson, Spanish Fork, and Melanie Peterson, Spanish Fork. He was preceded in death by his father, George, who died in the accident with him. Services were held Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at in the Palmyra LDS Stake Center Chapel, 905 E. 900 N., Spanish Fork. Her parents: Wayne Brockbank Hales and Isabel Ethel (Belle) Wilson Hales. She married Delos E. Bown. She died August 19, 1985 in White Plains, New York. Interment, Provo City Cemetery, Utah. ~ ~ ~ ~ Delos E. He was born May 21, 1923 in Provo, Utah to William Bown and Hattie Andersen. He married Margaret Hales on December 27, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have four children: Stephen, Isabel, David, and Ann and nineteen grandchildren. During World War II Delos enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He served in England as a navigator-bombardier flying in a B-17. After the war he returned to Provo where he studied chemistry at Brigham Young University. After earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree at BYU, Delos continued his education at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He graduated from MIT with a PhD in organic chemistry. During his professional career Delos worked for Exxon in Texas and later for Polychrome Corporation in New York as a research chemist. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Delos loved Scouting. As a boy he was a Sea Scout and as an adult he served many years as a Scoutmaster. His hobbies included woodworking, tending his rose garden, fishing, skiing well into his 70’s, playing cards and reading. Delos was also an expert handyman; he could fix anything. Delos was preceded in death by his wife Margaret and his eight brothers and three sisters. A graveside service will be held at the Provo City Cemetery on Saturday, March 12 at 2:00 pm. Class of 1934. Emma Lee Bown. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Emma Lee Bown Meacham died Dec. 27, 2007. She was 91. The fourth of five children, Emmy was born to Joseph Leo Bown and Emma Newell Bown in Provo, Utah, Dec. 8, 1916. Her early years were spent between Provo and the family ranch in southern Utah. She was lovingly protected, guarded and occasionally harassed by her brothers Casey [Joseph L. Bown, BYH Class of 1928], Bud and Newell [BYH Class of 1926]. She and her sister Alice matured in a close-knit family, forming bonds that lasted a lifetime. Emmy attended BYU High School in Provo and later Brigham Young University, and she was always proud that her great-grandfather had helped found that university. While working and attending school in Provo, Emmy met Raymond A. Meacham, and the couple fell madly in love and were married in Provo in 1939, and later sealed in the LDS temple. The union produced three children, Stephen in 1942, Lawrence in 1944 and Patricia in 1947. The family’s early years involved frequent relocations necessitated by World War II naval service and later Ray’s climbing the Gambel’s Department Store management ladder. Emmy and Ray decided to move to Grand Junction in 1952, opening Empire Furniture and then American Furniture. They loved the valley and their friends. Emmy was active in the family business and family affairs, and was a wonderful mother and supportive wife. She loved to can, cook and sew. She made the best cinnamon rolls in the world. During their stay in Grand Junction they made a close group of friends, and in their later years they traveled extensively. Emmy passed to the Lord in the presence of her loving family and was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. Emmy is survived by her husband, and by her children: Lawrence B. Meacham of Bangkok, Thailand, and Stephen Raymond Meacham and Patricia Meacham, both of Grand Junction, Colorado. Also surviving are grandchildren Stephanie Sherman (husband Timothy) and Kevin Meacham (wife Shawna), and her great-grand children, Casey, Ashleigh, Rachel, Megan, Danisha, Megan and Bryce. Services were held Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 2542 G Road, Grand Junction, Colorado.
