University, Book 10, page 310. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Zina Jeanette Bishop Herron died March 31, 1993 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born November 16, 1899 in Provo, Utah to Willard and Eleanor Elizabeth Graham Bishop. She married Gideon Ernest Herron June 24, 1931 in the Manti LDS Temple. He died March 30, 1977. She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many different organizations. She received her teaching certificate from Brigham Young Academy [actually Brigham Young High School] in 1920. School teacher and principal in Utah County for 11 years. Her hobbies included tatting, crocheting and working puzzles. Her greatest love, next to her family was doing genealogy, which she continued to do up until the last years of her life, which were spent in the Sarah Daft Retirement Home. She prided herself on always keeping busy during her declining years. She was a special lady and touched many lives. Survived by children: Lynn E. and Elaine Herron, Bountiful, Utah; Kenneth D. and Kaye Herron, Overton, Nevada; Philip M. and Carol Lawson, Heber City, Utah; Stanley R. and Annette Herron, Las Vegas, Nevada; Calvin G. and Connie Herron, Mesa, Arizona; Patrick G. and Norma Waller, Warner Robins, Georgia; 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren. Zina was preceded in death by three brothers. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 2, 1993, in Heber City, Utah. Her interment, Heber City Cemetery. [Deseret News, Thursday, April 1, 1993]

Class of 1956. Full name: Harold Preston Bissell. Chorus, Seminary Play, Rocks & Minerals Club, Senior Sluff Day Committee, Senior Hop Committee. Preston Bissell is the older brother of Anita Bissell Long, BYH Class of 1963. BYU BS Geography 1963. ~ ~ ~ ~ Following my graduation from BYU in 1963, I attended the University of Hawaii on an East-West Center scholarship. I received my MA in Geography in 1965. I taught for three years at Bemidji State College, where I met and married my wife, Mary Kay Brummer. I then attended the University of Oklahoma, receiving my PhD in 1971. I taught at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for two years, and later became Director of the Chippewa Valley Museum in Eau Claire for four years. From 1978 to 2000 I taught at McDonell Central Catholic High School in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, retiring in 2000. I then taught part-time at Regis High School in Eau Claire for three years, then one more semester at McDonell High School before retiring for good. I waste as much time as possible, carving wood, growing perennials, and writing curmudgeonly letters to the editor. My wife and I have been fortunate to be able to travel over the years. Since graduating from BY High I have been able to visit 45 foreign countries. In 2004, my brother and I drove from Eau Claire to the Panama Canal, via Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica and Panama. We were on the road for five weeks. I also have taken some trips with other BY High alumni. In August, 1995, several of us went on a week-long fishing trip to Alaska. The others were Rod Despain [BYH Class of 1956], Gerald Hayward [also BYH Class of 1956], and Bob Redd [BYH Class of 1957]. In July 1997, the four of us went to Peru. We flew into Iquitos, and took a river boat up the Amazon and into one of the tributaries, to the Pacaya Samaria Game Reserve. In 1999, we went to the Four Corners area for a week. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: H. Preston Bissell died on Monday, October 22, 2007, of a brain tumor, at home in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, with hospice. He was born October 4, 1938, in Provo, Utah, the oldest child of Dr. Harold J. and Ilene Affleck Bissell. Preston grew up in Provo, attending the Joaquin Elementary School, and graduating from BYU High School in l956. He graduated from Brigham Young University in l963 with a major in geography. He subsequently earned an MA degree in geography from the University of Hawaii in l965, where he attended on an East-West Center scholarship. Following that he taught at Bemidji State College in Minnesota for three years. There he met and married his life's companion, Mary Kay Brummer in l967. He then attended the University of Oklahoma, receiving a PhD in geography in 1971. He taught at the U of W - Eau Claire for two years and then was the first director of the Chippewa Valley Museum. He resigned from that position in l978 to teach at McDonell High School in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. He taught a variety of subjects there for the next 22 years, retiring in 2000. Then he taught part-time for three more years at Regis High School in Eau Claire. He was able to travel the world over during his lifetime and visited almost 50 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, South and Central America and the South Pacific. During retirement he took up woodcarving and growing perennials. He is survived by his wife Mary Kay, his brother Steven (Denver, Colorado), his sister Anita (New Hampshire) and their families. He is further survived by a foster daughter Mollie Bailey and her sons Connor and Riley (Heathrow, Florida). A memorial service was held at St. Bede's Monastery on Saturday, October 27, 2007. Her parents were Oscar Fullow Bjerregaard and Catherine Perry Middleton Bjerregaard. Eliza died on May 12, 2001 in Ogden, Utah. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Eliza Marie Bjerregaard, 90, died Saturday, May 12, 2001 at the Washington Terrace Nursing Center in Ogden, Utah. She was born November 4, 1910 in Sedonia Arizona Territory, a daughter of Oscar and Catherine Middleton Bjerregaard. She graduated from Brigham Young High School in 1928, then from BYU, and lived most of her life in Provo. She moved to Ogden in 1996 to be close to her family. She was a member of the LDS Church and had served as a Sunday School teacher and in the MIA. She was a member of the Altrusa Club and held various offices within the club. She is survived by a sister, Maxine Bjerregaard (Harold J.) Webb, Ogden; sister-in-law, Eleanor (George) Bjerregaard, Provo; niece, Jacqueline W. (Allen) Broadhead, Ogden; two great-nephews; three great-great-nephews and two great-great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her brother, George W. Bjerregaard. Graveside services were held at the Provo City Cemetery on Wednesday, May 16, 2001. The family suggested that donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Eliza's name. Born June 15, 1894 in Coyote (Antimony), Territory of Utah, to George Black and Esther Clarinda King Black. Esther married Benjamine (sic) L. Mathews, June 2, 1915, in the Manti LDS Temple. He died May 16, 1979. Esther attended Murdock Academy in Beaver, Utah. She taught school for many years. Member LDS Church and served in many leadership positions. She served as president of the Garfield Stake Relief Society. Resident of Antimony until moving to Roy in 1962. Member of the Pollyanna Camp of the Daughters Of The Utah Pioneers. She was Queen of the 1982 Ogden Pioneer Days Parade. Mother of seven sons and four daughters, Dasil, Vacaville, California; Wendell, Provo; Kay, Logan; Paul, Blackfoot, Idaho; Charles S., Roy; Mrs. Lee H. (Naomi) Baker, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Charles (Celia) Cowley, Venice, Utah; Mrs. Carlisle (Pauline) Hulet, Summit; LaRae Mathews, Roy; 42 grandchildren; 100 great- grandchildren; three great- great- grandchildren. He was born June 5, 1912 to Nellie Cordelia Basinger Black and Joseph Francis Black in Clyde, Idaho. Married Melba Ralph on February 14, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. A lifelong member of the LDS Church, he served as Ward Sunday School Superintendent, on the Stake High Council and Parley's Stake Executive Secretary for over 13 years. He loved and cherished his association with the members of Parley's Stake. He taught school in Chilly, Idaho; Salmon, Idaho; and East High School in Salt Lake City. He received a Doctorate in Education from the University of Utah and taught at both BYU and the University of Utah. Served as President of Salt Lake Teachers, Utah Education Association and Western Business Education Association. He retired as Director of Training at the IRS Regional Center in Ogden, Utah. Survived by son, Richard E. (Katherine Warner) Black and seven grandchildren. Preceded in death by son, Jesse Ralph Black, November 30, 1962 and wife, Melba. Funeral services were held Monday, July 21, 1997 in Salt Lake City. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. He was born to the late William Shirley and Verna Johnson Black, January 8, 1921 in Ammon, Idaho. Vern graduated from Brigham Young High School, Provo, in 1938. He served in the US Navy Aug 1942 to May 1946. He completed a BS degree in accounting at Brigham Young University, in 1947. He was employed as an accountant at Standard Oil and Pepsi Cola. Vernal was married to Wanda Cummings Black (deceased) and to LaRee Matthews Black, his partner for 36 years. He is also survived by children: John Black (Seattle, Washington); Kathleen (Christopher) Gamble (Salt Lake City, Utah); and Lisa (Robert) Bruce (Hansville, Washington). He had 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son Richard (Judy) Black (Eugene, Oregon); and siblings: William Shirley Black Jr; Karl Black; Nyta Giles; LaVeive Breckenridge; Maurice Black; and Herman Black. Vern was a gentle, intelligent man. He loved oil painting Utah landscapes, teaching oil painting at senior centers, and fishing with his small boat on Strawberry Reservoir. He also enjoyed playing tennis, shooting pool, and skiing. A graveside service was held Monday, September 30, 2013 at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 East 10600 South Sandy, Utah.
