Married Lois Ann Nelson. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS WIFE'S OBITUARY: Lois Ann Nelson Tolboe, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 1997, after a year long battle with cancer. She was born March 9, 1928, in Spanish Fork, Utah, to Rulon H. and Ann S. Nelson. She married V. Eugene Tolboe on June 28, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She earned a Bachelors of Science degree from Brigham Young University where she was involved in numerous service and social organizations. She was honored as the outstanding senior in Home Economics in 1950. Lois Ann was a respected educator and taught for 24 years in Granite, Salt Lake, and Provo school districts. She retired from Wasatch Junior High School in 1995. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International and past president of the Alpha Gamma chapter. She was a certified volunteer of the Literacy in Action Program and a member of both the NEA and UEA. A member of the LDS Church she devoted her entire life to serving others. Her callings included Young Women's president on three occasions, Relief Society president, and stake Primary president. She is survived by her husband Gene; a son and two daughters, Bradley E. Tolboe (Lynn), Anne Marie Lowe (Howard), and Patricia Clark (Francis); nine grandchildren; three brothers and one sister, J. Rulon Nelson, A. Reed Nelson, and James H. Nelson, all of Salt Lake, and Gloria Neeley of Ogden. Funeral services were held held Monday, January 6, 1997 in Salt Lake City. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. [Deseret News, Friday, January 3, 1997.] ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Vernon Eugene Tolboe, our gentle father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2011 due to complications from a hip fracture and diabetes. Gene was born in Provo, Utah on September 6, 1929 to Vernon Christian Tolboe and Ophelia Jennings Tolboe. He was their oldest child and big brother to Carole (Maxfield) who was born four years later. He had a wonderful childhood in Provo, where he made many friends with whom he was closely associated until his death. He loved his school days, especially his time at B.Y. High School where he played both football & basketball and was Student Body President. When Gene was 16 years old he lost both his parents in a tragic auto accident, an event that would significantly impact his sensitive and artistic nature. He married Lois Ann Nelson on June 28, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they had three children together. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1954 and a Bachelor of Architecture the following year from the University of Utah. He studied Art and Design at The New School for Social Research in New York City. Gene worked in architectural firms in Provo, New York City and Salt Lake City. He also worked as a Project Engineer for Tolboe Construction. He spent the greatest part of his career at Panushka & Associates and completed his professional life as the Chief Architect for the Salt Lake City Airport Authority. Our Dad was an artist in every way. He was intrigued by the beauty of design; whether it was in buildings, furniture, paintings, sculpture or jewelry. He loved the theater and music, especially jazz. He also loved sports and was a true Utah Ute fan. He had a passion for skiing and tennis. He enjoyed coaching his son's softball teams, and served as Scoutmaster to the same group of young men he coached on the field. More than anything, he adored his grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments. He is survived by a son and two daughters, Bradley Eugene Tolboe, Anne Marie Lowe (Howard) and Patricia Clark; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois Ann, his parents and sister. Special thanks to his long time nurse and friend Tammy Loock Strahl whose generous care gave us an extra four years with our Dad. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 18, 2011 at 11 am at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary (3401 South Highland Drive). Lynn Tolley lives in the Denver area - Broomfield/Westminster, Colorado. He married Gloria Lynn on July 5, 2001, and they are the parents of several children. He worked in construction, driving heavy machinery until he retired, and is a really nice guy. He is reputed to look a lot like Willie Nelson. Still weighs 130 dripping wet -- still hyperactive. @2016 ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS WIFE'S OBITUARY: Obituary for Gloria Elaine Tolley. Gloria Tolley, age 61, passed away on Thursday, April 13 at home in Westminster after an extended illness. She was born in Denver and was the second beloved child of Aubrey and Nellie Ladwig. Gloria, beloved daughter, is survived by her parents, Aubrey and Nellie Ladwig, her husband, Gerald Lynn Tolley, daughter, Aimee McMurtry (Leo Jr.), son, Gregg McMurtry, grandchildren, Leo III and Eli, Brothers, Nathan (Teresa), Mark (Renee) and numerous nieces and nephews. Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jeffery, Nick McMurtry, his father, grandparents, Aubrey & Cora, and brother, Russell. When she was a little girl, Gloria liked Barbies. She was a good student and enjoyed school. In her high school years she enjoyed church, and Bible study. She got her first job at Hallmark and liked Precious Moments and started collecting the figurines. She moved to California and returned to Arvada over 20 years ago. When people would visit her in California, she was a great hostess taking them to the famous tourist spots. Gloria loved watching the Denver Broncos. Gloria was a sweet spirit whose smile would light up a room. She dearly loved her family and enjoyed visiting them especially on the holidays where she would toil for hours to bring her special treats for everyone. She had such a great laugh. When she laughed, she made others laugh. Gloria is at peace with her heavenly Father and has joined her family. She will be deeply missed by many of us whose lives were touched by her. Funeral Services will be Monday, April 24, 2017 @ Crossroads Chapel 9901 W. 50th Ave. Wheat Ridge Co. Viewing at 12:00 followed by Services at 1:00 PM. On December 21, 2003 Lula Tolton Tanner passed away from natural causes in the Beaver Care Center, Beaver, Utah. She was 102 years old. She was born in Beaver, Utah on March 15, 1901, the daughter of John Franklin Tolton and Caroline Olivia Hales Tolton. She graduated from the Murdock Academy in 1919 and the University of Utah in 1923. In 1926 she attended Columbia University. She taught school for many years in Beaver, Utah and Salt Lake City, Utah. An adventurous young lady, she traveled from San Francisco to New York City by way of the Panama Canal in 1930, and in 1934 took a three-month excursion to pre-modern China and Japan. On June 6, 1947 she married Rollin C. Tanner of Phoenix, Arizona in the Arizona LDS Temple. They traveled widely in the United States, the Pacific Islands, Europe and the Holy Land. Together they served as stake missionaries and temple workers in Phoenix. A gifted teacher, she spent years of activity teaching in the LDS Church Relief Society and Sunday School in Salt Lake City, Beaver and Phoenix. Rollin passed away on August 31, 1967. In April 1972, Lula moved from Phoenix to Beaver where she has resided until her death. She was known for her friendliness, quick wit, generosity, love of Jesus Christ and goodwill toward all. She survived by nine nieces and nephews and five stepchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday December 27, 2003 in the Southern Utah Mortuary, 195 North 200 West, Beaver, Utah. BYH Class of 1938? Helen Trunkey. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Helen Richie passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was born to James K. and Vera Bushman Trunkey on February 24, 1920 in Twisp Washington. The family moved to Lehi, Utah and then to Provo where Helen graduated from BY High. She was an attentive older sister and practically raised her brother Dale when twin baby sisters, Fern and Faye came along. Helen married Alfred Billings and they had two sons, Jerry and Paul. She later moved to Ohio and had a successful career at National Cash Register. She met and married her second husband, Jim Richie in Ohio where they lived until his death. She then moved to Virginia and was lovingly cared for by her daughter-in-law, Susan Billings. Helen was known for her quick wit and her keen sense of humor. She was an expert seamstress and quilter, creating many intricate quilted wall hangings. She loved sports and became an avid golfer with her husband Jim. She especially enjoyed the experience she had volunteering at the 1985 International Special Olympics Winter Games in Utah. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dale, and her sons Jerry and Paul. She is survived by her sisters Fern Vernon (Leo-deceased) and Faye Conder (Phil- deceased), her daughter-in-law Susan Billings and many wonderful grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Source: The Evening Herald, Provo, Utah, May 28, 1930. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Having completed his earthly mission on March 10, 2001, Clarence Tucker, age 90, left his companion of 40 years to join his parents and brothers and sisters on the other side of the veil in those beautiful and peaceful surroundings that Jesus Christ has prepared for us. Clarence was born September 15, 1910 to George Warren and Keziah Mower Tucker in Fairview, Utah, where he received his early education. At the early age of 11 he was given responsibilities of helping on the dry farm where sagebrush had to be grubbed before any planting was done. Later he operated old vintage tractors with cleats, plowed untold acres of ground and spent many hours from dawn to dusk helping with threshing huge stacks of sheaved wheat. He was ingenious with anything mechanical, repairing or even putting tractors together from various parts. After the family moved to Provo, Clarence graduated from BY High School in 1930 and continued his education at BYU where he played in the Y band. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served for 3 years 8 months in the Pacific Theater on a mine sweeper and later a sub chaser. For 27 years Clarence worked at Geneva Steel in the Blast Furnace Department. After retirement he enjoyed working in their large garden and tinkering with machines on Sandhill Road. Clarence was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, having served as First Counselor to the Branch President at the Hidden Hollow Rest Home and as Sunday School President. He often quoted the scriptures, which he dearly loved and studied. For nine years he received deep satisfaction serving as an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple. He married his lovely bride, Herta Wilhelmine Folk August 29, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their marriage was later blessed with a baby daughter, Virginia. Clarence will be remembered for his love of music and his unique gift of a vocabulary consisting of seldom used words. He is survived by his lovely wife Herta, daughter Virginia (Kevin) Thueson, brother Webster Tucker, Sunset, Utah, sisters Maxine (Monte) Wight, Idaho Falls, ID, and Olive (Brady) Walker, Orem. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in Orem. Interment, Orem City Cemetery. [Provo Daily Herald, March 13, 2001]

He left in the fall of 1958 to take the position of Superintendent of the Idaho Falls School District. ~ ~ ~ ~ John Winn Tucker was born on January 10, 1926 to Wilhelm Paul Tucker & Doris Marie Winn in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married LaVora Murray [BYU 1957] on May 26, 1953 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He died on December 18, 2001 in Wheeling, Cook County, Illinois. His interment, Michigan City, La Porte County, Indiana. ~ ~ ~ ~ John W. Tucker was one of seven BYU graduates honored with the 2001 Emeritus Award, for making a significant difference in his community, state and beyond. Award recipients included Andrew H. Barnum, Max J. Berryessa, Elder Eran A. Call, Grace Guymon Jones, Robert J. Matthews, John W. Tucker, and Grant M. Wilson. ~ ~ ~ ~ John W. Tucker, BYU '51, EdD Harvard, PhD Columbia Pacific, spent most of his professional life in education. He was chancellor of Purdue University North Central from 1972 to 1982, where he also taught until 1991. He served as deputy executive vice president at the University of Utah, and president of the College of Eastern Utah. In his retirement years, this Michigan City, Indiana, resident remained active in a clinical psychotherapy practice in Chicago. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Medical Psychotherapy. ~ ~ ~ ~ 1993: College of Eastern Utah President Michael A. Petersen announced that the first endowed teaching chair has been established at the college, thanks to a $50,000 contribution from John W. Tucker and his wife LaVora. Tucker served as president of CEU from 1962 to 1970 and retired as Chancellor of Purdue University. The endowment is known as the LaVora Murray Tucker Chair of Social Ethics, in honor of Tucker's wife. ``I hope this gift will inspire others to establish similar endowments and assist the College of Eastern Utah to become one of the outstanding teaching colleges in the nation,'' Tucker said. Each year a faculty member at the college will be selected for his/her teaching abilities and will be named the LaVora Murray Tucker Professor of Social Ethics. In addition to their regular salary, the selected faculty member will also receive an annual stipend from the interest earned by the endowment. ~ ~ ~ ~ MEMORIAL RESOLUTION OF PURDUE UNIVERSITY for John W. Tucker, Former Chancellor and Professor of Educational Administration at Purdue North Central. January 10, 1926 - December 18, 2001. John Winn Tucker, 75, Michigan City, died Tuesday, December 18, 2001 in Wheeling, Illinois. He was born January 10, 1926 in Salt Lake City to Wilhelm Paul Tucker and Doris (Winn) Tucker. On May 25, 1953, in Las Vegas, he married LaVora Mae Murray, who survives. Survivors also include five daughters, Kerstin Severin, Shawna Monson, Travis Gunnell, Stacy Andrew and Mylese Reyes; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Clyde Tucker and Wilhelm (Billy) Tucker; and one sister, Veloy Bollinger. John Tucker felt that learning, teaching and serving were central to his life and career. He was the first in his family to go to college. His long career in education took him to positions in St. George, Utah; Idaho Falls, Idaho; Provo, Utah; Price, Utah; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Westville, Indiana. His positions included classroom instructor, school superintendent, dean of students, president of the College of Eastern Utah, vice president at the University of Utah, and Chancellor and Professor of Educational Administration at Purdue University North Central. John Tucker served in the Navy during World War II and returned to Utah to attend Brigham Young University and complete his bachelor’s degree. He received his master’s degree from Arizona State University and was awarded an Ed.D. from Harvard University. He also did postdoctorate studies at Oxford. John Tucker served as Chancellor of Purdue University North Central from 1972 until 1979. His tenure as Chancellor saw the approval and implementation of six technology AS degree programs and the AS degree Nursing program, all in 1972. The Library-Student-Faculty building (LSF) was constructed under Tucker’s leadership. On March 21, 1975, the new building, with library space for 125,000 books and 1,000 periodicals, was dedicated. The campus grew from 1,354 students in 1972 to 2,015 students in 1979. Dr. Tucker also served the North Central campus as Professor of Educational Administration teaching in the Organizational Leadership and Supervision program from 1979 through 1991 when he retired from the academic world. A devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Dr. Tucker served a two-year mission in Sweden, and served during his life as high priest, high counselor, and branch president in addition to many and varied church positions. Since retirement, he commuted to the LDS temple in Chicago over a period of seven years to do volunteer work there. At the time of his death he was completing a full time 18-month mission at that temple with his wife. Dr. John Tucker was a member of Kiwanis Club and Rotary Club, where he served a term as president. He was a member of the board of the Barker Foundation in Michigan City, and was appointed by the governor of Indiana to the New Harmony Historic Commission. SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Teaching and serving were central to the life and career of John Winn Tucker, who died Dec. 18, 2001. Born on Jan. 10, 1926 in Salt Lake City to Wilhelm Paul and Doris Winn Tucker, he was the first in his family to go to college. He went on to navigate the difficult waters of college administration on the campuses of the 1960s and '70s and was devoted to the idea that learning should be a joyous experience and, that given time, "anyone can learn anything if you want to bad enough." His long career in education took him to positions in St. George; Idaho Falls, Idaho; Provo; Price; Salt Lake City; and Westville, Indiana. His positions included classroom instructor, principal, school superintendent, dean of students, president of the College of Eastern Utah, vice president at the University of Utah, and chancellor at Purdue University North Central. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and returned to Utah to attend Brigham Young University and complete his bachelor's degree. He received his master's degree from Arizona State University and was awarded an Ed.D. from Harvard University. He also did post-doctorate studies at Oxford. He was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 22, 2001, at the Valparaiso Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Valparaiso, Indiana.
