She was born November 18, 1906 in Provo, Utah, the fifth child of Arthur Nichols Taylor and Maria Louise Dixon. She was known for her charitable service to friends and neighbors who were the recipients of homemade bread and cinnamon rolls. Family and friends cherish her water color and oil paintings. After graduation from Brigham Young High School in 1919, she attended Brigham Young University, graduating in 1929 with a BA in Art. During her student years she was a member of O.S. Social Unit, served as secretary-treasurer of the junior class and as student body secretary-historian. She married a classmate, ElRoy Nelson, August 14, 1935 in the Salt Lake Temple. She has resided in Troy, New York; Denver, Colorado; Salt Lake City, Provo and Riverton, Utah. She served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in numerous teaching capacities including pioneering the guide patrol program in Primary. Service in the Yale Ward, Salt Lake City, included Primary president and Relief Society president. For several years she volunteered at the Primary Children's Hospital in the pre-school for blind children. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the Classics Club. She is survived by a brother and sister, Clarence Taylor and Ruth Kartchner, of Provo and sister-in-law, Ethelyn Taylor, of Salt Lake City; children, Arthur T. (Bonnie) Nelson, John C. (Mary Ann) Nelson, Christina L. (Ron) Preston, Henry A. (Kristy) Nelson, James N. (Connie) Nelson; 22 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Anthony Hansen Taylor was born April 4, 1935, in Provo, Utah. His parents: Henry Dixon Taylor, Sr. [BYH Class of 1921] and Alta Hansen Taylor. His parents had four sons: Henry D. Taylor, Jr. [Senior Class President, BYH Class of 1949], Palo Alto, California; Anthony H. Taylor, Salt Lake City, Utah [BYH Class of 1953]; Stephen K. Taylor and David A. Taylor, Provo, Utah. Tony died December 29, 1998. ~~~~OBITUARY: Anthony Hansen Taylor passed away December 29, 1998 in Provo, Utah. He was born April 4, 1935, in Provo, Utah. He graduated from Brigham Young High School in 1953. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from BYU and his Masters of Fine Arts from Utah State University. Tony was an art instructor for 30 years in the Salt Lake School District. He taught at both South and East High Schools. He was involved in community theater, and recently endowed The Anthony H. Taylor Indian Collection to the Utah Museum of Natural History. Tony loved to travel and paint. He also enjoyed art history, food and Indian art and artifacts. He served an LDS mission to New Zealand and held various church callings. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1958 to 1960. Tony is survived by three brothers, Henry D. Taylor, Jr. (Colette), Stephen K. Taylor, David A. Taylor (Kristine), Mrs. Ethelyn P. Taylor, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry D. Taylor Sr. and Alta Hansen Taylor. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 2, 1999 in Provo, Utah. She died January 25, 2002. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Bountiful - Barbara Jean Taylor Gelder, 73, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away January 25, 2002, following a brief illness. Barbara was born December 10, 1928, in Salt Lake City to Rodney Taylor and Irene Sherwood. She graduated from Brigham Young High School in 1946, and attended Brigham Young University. She married Robert Austin Gelder on Dec 20, 1949, in the Manti Utah LDS Temple. Robert preceded her in death. Barbara loved reading, sewing, baking, and genealogy. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church and devoted her life to living its teachings. Although for thirty years her body was slowed by multiple sclerosis, she remained active to the end in raising her family, maintaining relationships, and performing church service. She is beloved and honored by her family and all who knew her. Survived by brother, Rodney S. She was born December 28, 1911 in Provo, Utah to Thomas Nicholls Taylor [BYU/BYH Board of Trustees, 1921 to 1939] and Mary Maud Elon Rogers Taylor. She married H. Rex Taylor of Levan, Utah on January 3, 1934 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. H. Rex Taylor passed away October 24, 1989 in Provo. Delenna attended the B.Y.U. Elementary, Junior High, High School and graduated from the University. She and her husband were active in all forms of Brigham Young University alumni activities. She served on the Provo City Planning Commission for 9 years and was active in civic affairs such as the Red Cross, the American Association of University Women and the Fine Arts Club. She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the M.I.A., Primary, Sunday School and as President of the Relief Society. Mrs. Taylor was an avid genealogist, acting as the recorder of current family records for her family. Mrs. Taylor is survived by 6 children, Nicholls Victor Taylor [BYH Class of 1952] and wife Barbara, of Coeur d` Alene, Idaho; Adrianne Taylor [BYH Class of 1954] and husband Rodney Taylor, of Bedford, Texas; Larry H. Taylor [BYH Class of 1961] and wife Cheryl Ann, of St. George, Utah; Kristi Taylor [BYH Class of 1964] Lawrence and husband Stephen, of Fresno, California, currently serving a full-time mission on Salt Lake Temple Square, and Natalie Taylor [BYH Class of 1968] Ralph and husband Murlin, of Payson, Utah; 22 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. She married Grant Kendall Burnham in Provo, Utah in 1943. She was a member of the LDS Church and the Lady Lions club, she was very social and enjoyed playing cards, needle work, crossword puzzles and charity work. Polly was survived by her daughter Nannette Bartholomew (Richard), 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Her parents were George Bailey Taylor and Elizabeth Torrie Taylor. Edna married Walter R. Buss. Edna Taylor Buss died on January 10, 1985 in Ogden, Weber County, Utah. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: Walter Richard Buss, 94, died July 16, 2000 at Legacy Retirement Center in South Jordan, Utah of natural causes. He was born November 1, 1905 in Provo, Utah to Fred Earle and Edith Bliss Rumsey Buss. He attended school at BYU Training School. His family moved to Palo Alto, California, where he completed high school and attended San Jose State College. He obtained his bachelors and masters degrees at BYU and doctorate from Stanford University as well as a honorary doctorate from Weber State University On November 30, 1928, he married Edna Taylor of Farr West, Utah, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were the parents of five children: Richard, David (Georgia), Marilyn (John) Wilcox, Warren (Beverly) and Barbara ("J" Stephen) Jones. Walter taught geology and geography at Weber State University for 41 years. Students remember his famous trips to various national parks. Many of his students knew him as "Uncle Walt". He retired from Weber in 1974 after teaching there for 41 years. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of positions including Family History Center worker, high councilor, high priests group leader, and bishop's counselor. He helped compile a book about the history and descendants of Richard and Sarah Wood Buss, his ancestors. He is survived by his brother Robert (Eugenia) and sisters Mabel Crittenden and Helen (Ted) Halsey, four children, 19 grandchildren and 36 great- grandchildren. His parents, brother Paul, wife Edna, son Richard, son-in-law John Wilcox, granddaughter JanaLyn Wilcox and grandson Jason Wilcox preceded him in death. Funeral services were held on Thursday at the Madison Center Ward Chapel, 27th and Jefferson, Ogden, Utah, with Bishop Norman Sevy officiating. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery. Interment, Provo City Cemetery, Block 3 Lot 139. World War I Army Veteran. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Elton LeRoy Taylor died Thursday, December 17, 1992 at his home in Lakeview, Utah, at the age of 92. He was born in Provo, Utah, June 22, 1900, the son of Arthur Nichols and Maria Dixon Taylor. He was raised in Provo and graduated from B.Y. High School. He then attended Brigham Young University and Utah State University. He completed military service in the U.S. Army in 1918. He served an LDS mission under President B.H. Roberts in the Eastern States Mission. After returning, he married Ethel Lulu Scott in the Salt Lake Temple in 1926; Ethel passed away in 1991. They were the parents of Julia T. Anderson (Kenneth) of Provo; James S. Taylor of Orem, Utah; Paul S. Taylor of Golden, Colorado; and Louise T. Woodruff (Clfford) of Price, Utah. Elton's posterity includes 25 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. His surviving sisters, Alice T. Nelson, and Ruth T. Kartchner, and brother, Clarence D. Taylor, live in Provo. In 1929, Elton moved to Price, Utah to manage the family furniture business, Dixon-Taylor-Russell Co. He was a civic and religious leader in Carbon and Emery counties for over 30 years, serving as President of the Carbon Stake for 17 years, and working actively in the Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. Retiring to Lakeview in 1960, Elton was able to fulfill his lifelong desire to farm and raise cattle. He was a temple worker for a number of years at the recommend desk of the Provo Temple, and served many years as Patriarch of the Sharon West and Lakeview stakes. Elton pursued a lifelong passion with travel and history, traveling extensively throughout the U.S. and many foreign countries. He was especially well-versed in the history of Utah Lake, surrounding Utah Valley, and Central and Southern Utah. Funeral services were held Monday, December 21, 1992, in Lakeview. BYU Doctor of Educational Administration 1987. Married Debra S. Wagstaff. He served as President, Nevada Las Vegas LDS Mission, early 1990s. Also Associate Administrative Director of Missionary Training at the Missionary Training Center in Provo. Dr. George T. Taylor. His parents: Lynn Dixon Taylor and former BYH faculty member Celestia Marguerita Johnson Taylor. OBITUARY OF SON: Allen Craig Taylor, born February 9, 1979, died in an automobile accident on Wednesday, December 3, 1997. He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as an elder of the BYU 89th Ward. He had received his Eagle Scout award. Allen was currently attending BYU as a Freshman, majoring in fine arts. He loved sports, art, drama, and music. He formed a band, wrote many songs and gave several public performances. He loved to paint and also create large art pieces out of discarded metals, etc. At the time of his death, he was employed by the BYU Bookstore doing art framing. Allen will be remembered for his ability to make those around him enjoy his companionship. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Allen is survived by his parents, George T. Taylor and Debra S. Wagstaff Taylor of Provo; grandparents: Douglas S. and Bonnie J. Wagstaff, Sandy; two brothers and two sisters: David Lynn Taylor, George Terry Taylor II, AnnaLise Kochel, and Amy Jean Taylor. Allen was preceded in death by an older brother, Douglas Dixon Taylor.
