[John] Edward Johnson, who is an officer of and the attorney for the Pacific Coast Joint Stock Land Bank of San Francisco. He was born in Murray, Utah, October 2, 1890, and is a son of John and Edla (Lundell) Johnson, who were born in Sweden, came to the United States in the late 1880s, and were married in Salt Lake City, Utah. Later the family moved to Utah county, where the father has been in civic and political affairs for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson are the parents of ten children, five sons and five daughters, of whom J. Edward is the eldest. J. Edward Johnson attended the grade schools of Benjamin and the high school [Brigham Young High School] in Provo, Utah. He then took up his advanced studies at Brigham Young University, which institution conferred upon him the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1915. He did not secure his education easily, for he was compelled to earn his own way toward the goal he had set for himself in boyhood, namely, to be a successful lawyer. He worked in the mines near Eureka, Utah, during his vacation periods, and taught school. From 1915 to 1917, following his graduation from Brigham Young University, he was principal of the Snowflake Academy in Snowflake, Arizona, and then took up the study of law in the University of California. In 1920 he received the degree of Juris Doctor and in the same year was admitted to practice in the state of Utah. He first became a member of the law firm of Booth, Brookbank [Brockbank?] & Johnson in Provo, and retained this connection until 1922, in which year he was admitted to the bar in California. He accepted the position of assistant attorney for the Federal Land Bank of Berkeley, where he remained from 1921 to 1926. In 1922 he became chief counsel for said bank and from 1923 to 1926 was attorney for the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank of Berkeley. In 1926 he became general counsel and secretary of the Pacific Coast Joint Stock Land Bank, of which he is now a director; and of the Mercantile Mortgage Company, well known corporations of San Francisco. In 1929 he severed his connections with the Mercantile Mortgage Company. Mr. Johnson has given his attention especially to real property and banking law, and is widely regarded as a dependable authority in this phase of his profession. In 1931 he organized the law firm of Johnson, Ruggeri and Harmon, consisting of Mr. Johnson, Henry Ruggeri, and W. Glen Harmon. Mr. Johnson’s rise in the practice of law has been uncommonly rapid, but has been brought about by extraordinary ability and close application. He holds membership in the San Francisco and the California State Bar Associations. His offices are situated in the Federal Reserve Bank building on Sansome street. Mr. Johnson was married June 22, 1916, in Salt Lake City, to Miss Mamie Huish, who was born in Payson, Utah, a daughter of James W. and the late Mary Elizabeth (Fillmore) Huish, who were both members of pioneer families of Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson have four children: Robert, who was born October 30, 1918; Marion, born December 16, 1922; Carolyn, born July 13, 1928; and Thomas, born February 7, 1931. The family residence is at 900 Spruce street in Berkeley. Mr. Johnson is a member of the Church of Latter-Day Saints, in the teachings of which he was reared. In politics he has accorded his support to the democratic party, and he belongs to the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity; to the Alumni Associations of Brigham Young University and the University of California; the University of California Law School Association, and the Pacific Spirit Club of San Francisco. ~ ~ Transcribed by: Jeanne Sturgis Taylor. His parents were Johan Jansson (Johnson) and Edla Wilhelmina Lundell Johnson. J. Edward Johnson married twice: First, to Mary Elma (Mamie) Huish on June 22, 1916 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She died on June 13, 1933 in Berkeley, California. Second, he married Ethel Lavon [or La Von] Brockbank on August 31, 1934. J. Edward Johnson died on April 4, 1976 in Oakland, Alameda County, California. His interment, El Cerrito, Contra Costa County, California.

Kay was born on January 23, 1937, in Provo, Utah, to Alma Leroy and Irene Henrichsen Johnson. Kay attended Kindergarten through college at Brigham Young University. She graduated from Brigham Young High School in 1955 and received her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Ed in 1959. She was always happy to say she never went to any other school than BYU. She married Robert Richard Van Dyke in the Salt Lake Temple on September 4, 1959 and moved to Cyprus, California where she began teaching Kindergarten. A few years later when they relocated the family dairy farm to Chino, California, Kay stopped teaching in order to start a family, and they were pleased to adopt two children, Robbie and Kristin. In 1974 they returned to Utah and made their home in Springville where she loved helping with her dad's horses and the family mink farm. Kay was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a great testimony of the gospel. She served faithfully in numerous callings. She especially enjoyed her visiting teaching calling she shared with her late friend Klea, where she was able to visit and foster many friendships at Canterbury Assisted Living. Kay enjoyed decorating her house for every holiday so her family and friends could always feel the love and warmth of each season. She loved caring for and spending time with her family. Kaye and Devon Ivie
  • Work: 801-225-3082

Class of 1956. Kaye Johnson. Varsity Cheerleader. Junior Class Social Chair, Soph Class Secretary, French Club, Pep Club, Chorus, Library Staff, Soph Ball Committee, Junior Prom Committee. BYU BS Business Education & Administrative Management 1964. Married Devon Ivie. Kaye Johnson and Devon Ivie are married and residing with as well as caring for her father in Provo. They own and operate several fast food franchises in the area. [Do not confuse with Kay Johnson, also Class of 1956.] ~ ~ ~ ~ What can be said about the last fifty years, except where did they go? I am just grateful that I can say, looking back, how good they have been. After BY High, I attended BYU for a couple of years and then got married (that's the plan, right?) I worked at US Steel – Geneva Works and quit in July, 1961 to give birth to a darling baby girl in August that year. Her name is Jackie Lynne. When she was a year old, her father and I divorced (that's not the plan, but it's life!) I went back to school and got my degree from BYU in Business / Accounting, then went back to work at Geneva in Provo where I worked until 1966, when I got smart enough to marry Devon R. Ivie, also from Provo. In fact, he was just about the boy next door. We lived in Ogden for three years and then transferred to Idaho Falls, Idaho with Devon's work – National Cash Register Co. (NCR). While in Idaho, I worked for the Bank of Commerce and became a Vice President and Trust Officer, and Devon got into the food business. He started and ran five Mexican fast food restaurants in Idaho. We have traveled to many foreign lands, but some of our best vacations have been in the Utah mountains; hunting, boating and fishing. We have been active in the LDS Church; Devon has served as Bishop and on the High Council as well as in many ward leadership positions. When we sold our Idaho restaurants, Devon went into the landscaping business and did most of his work in the Jackson Hole, Wyoming area. After the death of my mother in 1996, we decided it was time to come back to Provo to be with our families – Devon’s mother and my father. So, Devon looked into the Papa Murphy's Pizza business in Utah as a new venture. We became involved in five stores, and have just recently sold the last of them. Now, I guess we're retired. We have lived with my father for the last ten years. He passed away the last of March 2006 and would've been one-hundred in July. I hope I got my Dad's genes! Devon was a great support to me in caring for my father. Now, I'm right back on the Canyon Road where I lived while in high school. What goes around, comes around, eh? We still have some sheep, horses, cats and dogs, and we also still farm, and I can buck bales of hay just like the "guys". Our daughter, Jackie, has two lovely children, both girls. They are in college: Chelsi at Utah State will be graduating this spring and is already working toward her master's degree in English; and Lacy is a freshman at the University of Nevada – Reno, majoring in graphic design. Both are in school on scholarships. Although we have learned never to say never, life is good and we are glad to be alive and well. I wish I had known when I was frolicking through high school how important all of you and those days would become to me, and I would've been a better friend to you who helped me become the Kaye that I am. Thank you! @2006

Her parents: William Cluff Johnson and Mary Barbara Hyde Johnson. ~ ~ Kristen married Robert Clyde Foster on March 28, 1969 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Robert was born on February 10, 1947 in Provo, Utah. He died on November 15, 1984 in Bingham Canyon, Utah. His interment, Orem, Utah. ~ ~ Kristen also married Ken Rollin McDougall on August 13, 1986. Ken was born on March 9, 1944 in Provo, Utah. He died on April 23, 1998. ~ ~ Kristen also married Terry Brooks. Kristen died on December 30, 2010 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her interment, Shelley, Idaho. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Kristen Joy Foster Brooks was born in Blackfoot, Idaho, on September 12, 1947, to Cluff and Barbara Johnson. She spent much of her childhood in Great Falls, Montana. She graduated from Brigham Young High School in the Class of 1965. Later, she attended BYU, where she received a bachelor's degree in Business in 1970. In 1969, she married Robert "Clyde" Foster in the Salt Lake Temple. Clyde was a member of the U.S. Army, so Kristen spent many years traveling around the country and lived for several years in Germany. During these years, Kristen and Clyde were blessed with two daughters and six sons, who each brought much joy and adventure to Kristen's life. In 1984, tragedy struck when Clyde was killed in an accident, and Kristen was left to raise her eight young children alone. She courageously faced this challenge and eventually moved her family to Rexburg, Idaho, where she obtained a position working at Ricks College. While working full time and raising her children, she went back to school, and in 1995, she earned a master's degree in Education from Idaho State University. Education was always an important part of Kristen's life, in her career, as well as her private life. She spent over 14 years working for Ricks College/BYU-Idaho in the Continuing Education Department. Education was something she unfailingly encouraged in her children and everyone around her. In 1995, Kristen moved to Shelley, Idaho, and in late 2000, she met Terry Brooks at a singles dance. They soon fell in love, and in July 2004 they were married. Unfortunately, their happiness was tainted by illness; a few months before their marriage Kristen was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Although they knew their "happily ever after" would not happen in this life, Terry exhibited true love by his willingness to support Kristen throughout her illness. He loved and cared for her for the rest of her life, and Kristen was blessed to have her "Sweetie" by her side till the end. During her life, Kristen was a friend and "mother" to many people she came in contact with. She was a good listener who saw the good in everyone. She enjoyed traveling, the beach, music, dancing, playing with grandkids and she was one of Neil Diamond's biggest fans. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life and was a pillar of faith in her family. She lived up to her name and brought "Joy" through her love and selfless service to all those she came in contact with. Kristen passed away on December 30, 2010. Her family would like to thank all those who gave time to serve and help Kristen during her illness; many small acts of love and kindness helped to ease the hardships of her illness. Kristen is survived by her husband, Terry Brooks; her three brothers, Laron, Verlin and Maclom Johnson; her sister, Melissa Anderson; her children, Dawn (Pete) Erickson, Mark (Meg) Foster, Daniel (Sally) Foster, Christopher (Fay) Foster, John (Shanna) Foster, Matthew (Monica) Foster, David (Lalove) Foster and Becca (AJ) Foster; four stepchildren, Kristin (Marcus) Brooks, Paul Brooks, Jeremy Brooks and Eric Brooks; 15 grandchildren; and many others who considered Kristen a mother, sister and friend. Funeral services for Kristen were held in the Taylor LDS church building in Shelley, Idaho, 1101 E. 1250 North, on Friday, January 7, 2011. Interment, Taylor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made in Kristen's name to the Idaho Falls Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 51055, Idaho Falls, ID, 83405. Class of 1958. Linda Lee Johnson. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: LINDA LEE JOHNSON CASTLETON. Walnut Creek, California. Linda Lee (Johnson) Castleton, 82, passed away suddenly on May 4th, 2023. Linda was born in Provo, Utah to LeRoy and Crystal Johnson on September 8, 1940. She attended Brigham Young High School in the Class of 1958, then attended BYU majoring in Music. Linda later moved to Salt Lake City where she worked in the Secretary of State's Office at the State Capitol, did some modeling and was 1st runner-up to Miss Utah. From a very young age, Linda had a strong passion for music and singing. At 18 she auditioned for and was accepted into the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and was the youngest member at the time. Linda sang in the choir for 10 years and traveled with the choir all over the U.S. and Canada. Being a member of the choir was a proud achievement and highlight in Linda's life and she would talk about it often. She would love to mention her singing with the choir on a cold January day on the steps of the Capitol during the inauguration of President Nixon. It was while singing in the choir that Linda met her loving husband, John, also a choir member. Linda and John got married and moved to Sacramento, where Linda worked at the State Capitol for then Governor Ronald Reagan, another highlight in her life. They eventually moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where they raised two children, Jennifer and John Jr. Linda was a stay-at-home Mom for over 22 years before going back to work at The Waterford at Rossmoor, in Walnut Creek, an elegant Senior Living Community. Linda worked there for 21 years and loved her job as an assistant for many different departments. She truly loved working with Seniors and especially enjoyed helping with many activities such as calling Bingo and throwing Happy Hours and parties for the residents. Linda's deep love of music was strongly apparent, and she could be heard constantly humming or singing no matter where she was or what she was doing. Others were in awe of her beautiful and amazing singing voice, and she was often asked to sing for special occasions. Her husband, John, also had a wonderful voice and they sang together for many special events throughout their lives. Linda's love of music and singing will always be carried on through her children and grandchildren. Linda is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John Bramwell Castleton Sr. and is survived by her two children, Jennifer Castleton Hillard and John Bramwell Castleton, Jr., her three lovely grandchildren, Megan "Max" Crystal Hillard, Nathaniel Grage Castleton and John "Jack" Sandvik Castleton, as well as her sister Kay Funes and many nieces and nephews.
