Class of 1956. Patsy Hansen. Wildcat Yearbook Advertising Manager, Childrens Theater, French Club, Pep Club, Twirlers, Chorus, Shorthand Club, Exchange Assembly, Junior Prom Committee, Senior Hop Committee. BYU 1960. Married James R. Cook. ~ ~ ~ ~ "Jim said for him, it was love at first sight. After our first date he knew that I was going to be his wife, one way or the other. In the end, he was right! Jim and I met through a friend the spring of our freshman year of college. On June 9, 1961, we were married in the Salt Lake Temple. We lived in Salt Lake for about three years. During that period of time, we lived next door to Lani [Hacking - also Class of 1956] and Gary Collins. Carolyn [Barlow - also class of 1956] and Kent Dunford [BYH Class of 1952] also moved into our ward. During that time, we were blessed with three children, Brad, Michael (who died when he was one and one half years old) and Emilie. In the spring of 1965, Jim was hired by Mattel Toy Company and we left Salt Lake to live in northern California, then to southern California for six months, then back to northern California for nine months, then back to southern California for a year, off to Dallas, Texas for nine months, then on to Chicago for four years, and back to southern California for a year, where we decided to move back to Utah. We put our house up for sale and moved back to Salt Lake City to be with family and friends. Coming back home has been an adventure – owning, running and eventually selling a number of businesses. As an added bonus, we are surrounded by extended family and lifelong friends. We are empty-nesters these days. Our son, Brad, is involved in legal research and has four beautiful children; Emilie works for her father’s business helping to keep things running smoothly and has a child on the way, which we are looking forward to with great anticipation. We love our grandkids almost as much as we love our children (sometimes, even more). BY High was where it all began – a life full of adventure, happiness, ups and downs (mostly up) and lots of surprises and lessons along the way. We look forward to the next fifty years! @2006 ~ ~ ~ ~ Email sent to patsy@topline-creations.com bounced back. @2010

Dick and Shirley Hansen

Class of 1954 ~ Honorary. Richard Rulon "Dick" Hansen. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: My stalwart Dad quietly endured to the end. Richard R. Hansen passed away Sunday morning, October 25, 2015. He struggled with dementia and kidney failure, however he passed peacefully in the quietness of the morning. Richard was born on April 28, 1935 in Provo, Utah, to Rulon B. & Reanon Wilson Hansen. Richard was the older of two boys. Gordon W. Hansen, his younger brother, currently lives in Alameda, California. Richard lived two blocks from the BYH Lower Campus and he attended Brigham Young Junior High School, but when his Jr. High School sweetheart Shirley Anderson, decided to attend Provo High School, he followed her there. He married Shirley in June of 1957. Richard worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for many years, but he also made a career of serving in the military with the Utah National Guard for 42 years. He was a Master Sergeant with the Region V NCO Academy at Camp Williams. He was very proud of his "one and only" child, Stacey L. Gilmore. When he was asked how many children he had, he always responded by saying, "I have one, she is perfect and that's all I need." Although perfection has not yet been obtained, it was fun to think that I was perfect in my Dad's eyes. Richard also loved his "one and only" grandson, Benjamin H. Gilmore. Together they loved to talk about hot rods and had fun working on wood projects in my dad's garage. This past year has been harder than most for him because his wife of 57 years, Shirley A. Hansen, died in August of 2014. The dementia he suffered with for many years, was both a curse and a blessing. At times he would forget that Mom had passed and would tell others that she was "just shopping." Services for him were held on Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Camp Williams, at 17111 S. Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah. There was a viewing with a military graveside service afterward. The family suggests donations to the Utah Alzheimber's Association at www.alz.org/utah or by calling 1-800-272-3900. Y'ld Cat Newspaper Editor, Chorus, Seminary Graduate, Seminary 4 years, Poetry Festival, Pep Club, Model U.N., Homeroom Rep, French Club Vice President, Quill & Scroll Vice President. BYU BA Journalism 1968. Married Owen Hogle. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: Owen Copley Hogle, 1945-2021. Spring City, UT — Owen "Hob" Hogle, the last of the four Hogle brothers, left this life Wednesday January 6, 2021 following a long illness. Owen, son of Bonnie Smith and James E. Hogle Sr., was born December 28, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah. His early days were spent roaming Federal Heights where the local boys dubbed themselves the Arlington Gang. The family moved to 41 acres on 700 East and 3900 South, naming it Fantasy Ranch (Old Farm). Owen's first job was at Utah's Hogle Zoo and lasted a half day. He was fired that afternoon for leaving the ladder on Monkey Island, allowing all the monkeys to escape. Immediately after graduating from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, he was drafted and served honorably in Viet Nam. His business career included wine merchant, real estate, investments, advertising and publishing. In 1994 he followed his heart, opening The Wild Bird Center in Holladay. Instead of keeping the first dollar he earned, he kept his first customer, Sheri Hansen. They married in 1995 and continued in business together for twenty years. In 2014 on the advice of his physician, Owen and Sheri left Salt Lake City due to the toxic air quality and moved to Spring City, Utah. In spite of his dedicated involvement with community and social issues, personal recognition was not important to Owen. He would prefer to be remembered for his integrity, kindness and sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James E. Jr., Hugh, and Donald. He is survived by his wife Sheri, stepson Joshua (Brandy) Kramer, children Danielle (Mark) and Tela (Jason) and grandchildren Aiden, Riley and Gwynnie. Sheri and Owen give special thanks to the lntermountain Hospice Team and our friends and neighbors in Spring City for their support.
