Greg first married Katherine Jo Rasmussen who was born on February 2, 1950 in Boise, Idaho. Her parents were Joseph Merrill Rasmussen and Dorris Gillette Rasmussen. They married on August 21, 1971. Katherine died on November 30, 1992 in Monticello, Utah. Her interment, Monticello City Cemetery. ~ ~ ~ ~ OBITUARY OF HIS 2ND WIFE: Marianne Washburn Kjar-Duerden, born, September 8, 1943, to Viron and Mary Washburn of Pleasant Grove's Monkeytown neighborhood, passed away at home Friday, August 29, 2014. A graduate of Pleasant Grove High School, Class of 1961. She attended BYU where she met and married David Louis Kjar from Sanpete County. They had eight children, one (Nathan) died in infancy and seven survived to have families of their own. David died in 1991 while they lived in Gunnison, where he was a hospital administrator. The family continued to live in Gunnison, for a few years and then moved to Provo in 1997. After 15 years of living in Provo, she met and married Greg Duerden. They successfully blended their families into quite a clan; 13 children and step-children, 11 spouses, 55 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. For the last year, Marianne and Greg served as Church Services Missionaries at LDS Tech. A lifelong active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as Relief Society President, once in Gunnison and twice in Provo, she had several teaching positions, and as Stake Singles Co-Chair for three years in Provo. She was preceded in death by her son, Nathan, her husband, David and both of her parents. She is survived by her husband Greg, her seven children: Ron (Stephanie), Heidi, Kristen (Matt), John (Jeralyn), Megan (Maurod), Paul (Jen), Steven (Damaris); six step-children: Doris (Scott), Holly, Michelle (Brant), Rachel, Gary (Cabrel), Mackenzie; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Mark and numerous cousins, friends and loved ones. Breinholt, famous Utah artist and educator, age 81, died at home in Provo on January 29, 1997. Floyd was born December 25, 1915, in Ephraim, Utah, to Wilford L. and Jenny Marie Breinholt. On June 12, 1939, he married Tess E. Tidwell in the Manti Temple. Tess preceded him in death in 1975. On Oct. 20, 1976, he married Claudia Young Duerden in the Provo Temple. A weekly newspaper, the Salina Sun in south central Utah, has been sold. The new owners are Jim and Lori Olsen of Gunnison, who purchased the interests as the result of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy by Post Publishing. The newspapers were sold to Post by Kevin Ashby, former Salina resident now living in Price. Jim Olsen formerly worked for Post Publishing. Ashby reportedly had planned to publish a newspaper under another name until negotiations were completed between him and Post Publishing, allowing him to again publish the Salina Sun sell his interest. Greg Duerden has been hired by the new owners as Editor of the Salina Sun. Duerden has worked for newspapers in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado. Source: The Evening Herald, Provo, Utah, May 28, 1930. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Thora Duke Porter, 93, wife of the late Theodore Owen Porter, passed away Friday June 11, 2004. Thora, the eldest daughter to Effa Skousen and Charles Albert Duke, was born March 23, 1911 in Lethbridge Alberta Canada. Thora's family had a great pioneer heritage and she was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She graduated from Brigham Young High School in the Class of 1930. Her family moved from Provo, Utah to the Valley of the Sun in Arizona in 1923, where she lived most of her adult life. After high school Thora attended BYU for two years. Due to the war and the depression she had to return to Arizona to help the family. In 1942 she met and married Emmert Shaver and their son David was born in 1944. After the war, a single mother, Thora returned to college at Tempe Normal (ASU) and received her BS in education. She taught in the Washington School District in Phoenix until 1960 when she met and married Theodore Owen Porter, thereby inheriting a new large family. Owen was teaching at Mesa High School in Mesa, and the couple moved to their new home in Mesa. Thora transferred to the Scottsdale school district where she finished her teaching career. As a youth Thora's family was quite musical and she was in the family band often playing for church dances and activities. Her love of music was shared by Owen, and the two of them spent many happy hours playing their violins, the piano and singing together. Besides the love of music and teaching, Thora and Owen were avid "rockhounds". They did a lot of traveling around the country after they retired looking for special rocks and gems. Thora was a very generous woman. Her family and friends were blessed by her generosity as she was always there to lend a loving, caring hand. She had a spare bedroom that was rarely empty. After all was said and done, for all her loves, her love of the Gospel and her family were paramount. Thora is preceded in death by her sister Berniece Richmond, and her brothers Charles Dean Duke, Woodrow Skousen Duke, and Bernard Duke. She is survived by her youngest brother James R. Duke, her son David, "Duke" Shaver, her granddaughter and primary caregiver, Kimberley M. Shaver and grandson Charles Albert Shaver. Thora is also survived by her stepdaughter Marilyn Davis, 13 grandchildren 20 great grand children and 3 great great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her 10 loving nieces and nephews. IT IS ALL GOOD! Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 from 5-7:00 PM, Bunker's Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, Arizona. Class of 1951. James Douglas "Jim" Dunford. Basketball, Track, Chorus, Junior Class Social Chair. Married Jean Irene Nebeker. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: James Douglas Dunford, 1933-2017. Our husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather completed his earthly mission on March 31, 2017 and returned to his Heavenly Father. James Douglas Dunford was born February 10, 1933 to Alma Teller and Thelma Tueller Dunford in Provo, Utah. Jim graduated from Brigham Young High School, Provo, Utah, in the Class of 1951. He married his eternal sweetheart, Jean Irene Nebeker on July 13, 1951. They were later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on June 28, 1957. He is survived by his sweetheart Jean and children: Leslee Dunford Miller, Springville, Utah; Randall Dunford (Vicki), Lehi, Utah; James Dunford (Randy Kae) Lehi, Utah; and daughter-in-law Cindy Dunford, Orem, Utah. His son, Ronald Dunford, passed in 2016. He is survived by twelve wonderful Grandchildren and twenty Great-Grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Helen Dunford Jeppson, and one brother, Chaunce Dunford. Jim retired from Pacific Gas and Electric Company in California after working there for 42 years. He worked in the Electric Substation Department. He worked on the starting up and installing of the Geysers Power Plants, in Lake County, California, which started the first geothermal electric generating station run by a utility in the United States. Jim loved his family thoroughly and enjoyed being a Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. He raised his family in the San Francisco Bay Area. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many Church positions in his life time. In California he was a Bishop, a Counselor in two different Stake Presidencies, High Councilor, Stake Missionary, Ward Clerk and other Church positions. In Utah he served as Stake Clerk, Stake Executive Secretary, a Branch President at the MTC, and Service Missionary at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City. After retiring, he worked for the Uinta National Forest for 11 years in their Senior Workers Program. He was also a volunteer at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo. He loved Utah and was so happy when they moved back to Orem in 1986. The family wishes to thank the staff at Valeo Home Health, especially Toni, Kristina, Lisa, and Holly for their loving care for Jim. Also, the family wishes to thank all the staff at Bel Aire Assisted Living in Orem for the wonderful care and concern for Jim during his final months. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Orchard Stake Center Chapel, 810 E 600 N Orem, Utah. Viewings will be held on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 S State, Orem and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Married Carolyn Barlow, BYH Class of 1956. Lived in Provo, Utah where he attended B.Y. High School. Kent [BYH Class of 1952] and Carolyn Barlow married after having met playing tennis with mutual friends two years earlier. He became a seminary teacher in Copperton, Utah. After two years and the birth of their first son, they pursued pursuing further degrees, Kent a master’s degree and myself a bachelor’s. Kent accomplished his goal at the University of Colorado where he opened a new Institute building and program along with getting a Master’s degree in American History. During this time they were back and forth to Provo and Carolyn graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Education just before their fourth child was born. During the next few years they moved to San Diego, Provo and then to Salt Lake, pursuing degrees and teaching. They settled in Salt Lake in 1967 where the last of their six children were born. They are Garth Barlow Dunford, Charles Isaac Dunford, Julie Dunford Pond, Gregory Joel Dunford, Shelley Hardy Dunford and Paul Harold Dunford. All married now with many children to their credit. After experiencing a trip to Israel in 1971, they fell in love with travel and led several tours to Europe and back to Israel during the next few years. The highlight came when they were asked to return to Israel and teach for the winter and spring term in 1981. This they did with their children and had a marvelous experience together. Since that time they have been able to return to Israel and teach the spring and summer terms for many years. During the last ten years the Dunford family moved to Chicago, Boston and Honolulu where Kent served in the Church Education System. Carolyn was employed by CES, a real estate office and Cambridge College. At the end of their teaching career they spent a year as missionaries serving at the Institute in Honolulu and the Church College in Hawaii. @2010 |

By Luke Jones, May 04, 2014. IDAHO FALLS, Idaho - An Idaho Falls woman says she can claim descent to Bridget Bishop, the first accused witch hanged during the Salem Witch Trials in 1692. Even though Bishop lived more than 300 years ago, you can still see some of her in local author Laura Jo DeMordaunt. "I am a strong-willed individual and I stand up for the things I believe in, and I guess that's been passed down,” said DeMordaunt. Fascinated by her family's dark history, DeMordaunt said she began researching Bishop 35 years ago. "I have been back to Salem and into the Library of Congress studying old documents, reading books. Books, books, books, books,” said DeMordaunt. What she discovered became the inspiration for her own newly published book, “Thou Shalt Not Allow A Witch To Live.” It details Bishop's life and the times in which she lived through a first-person narrative. "I would call her probably the first American feminist,” said DeMordaunt. Bishop owned her own businesses and wore brightly colored clothing, which DeMordaunt said made her an easy target for accusations of witchcraft. "She allowed her taverns to be open late in the evening and for the sailors to come in to play shuffleboard and to bet and throw the dice and play cards and dance. I'm naming all the things that the Puritans hated,” said DeMordaunt. Bishop, like other accused witches, was convicted using spectral evidence, which essentially allowed witnesses to testify about things they saw in dreams and visions. “She was accused of looking at a baby and then the baby died,” said DeMordaunt. DeMordaunt says Bishop's story is still relevant today. "What happened to her is probably still happening today where we accuse people wrongly for something they did, and then we don't let people be individualistic,” said DeMordaunt.
