Class of 1952. Joyce Cassity. Chorus, Notre Maison, Shorthand Club. Married Jerry Weight (div.). @2007 ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Joyce Cassity Weight, September 13, 1934 ~ February 20, 2022 (age 87). Our loving mother, sister, grandma, and great grandma, Joyce Lorraine Cassity Weight, passed peacefully back to her Heavenly home on February 20, 2022. Joyce was born in Erda, Utah on September 13, 1934 as the fifth and final child of Edward and Arvilla Cassity. Joyce and her siblings grew up in the Tooele area, enjoying the great outdoors and artesian wells on the family property. Later in her early teens, after her mother died, Joyce went to live in the loving home of Karl and Frances Miller and their three sons, Reed, Grant, and Glen in Provo, Utah. Joyce graduated from Brigham Young High School in 1952 with honors. It was there that she met and later married Jerold "Jerry" Arthur Weight in the Salt Lake Temple (later divorced). While Joyce was pregnant with their first child, Jerry was called and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Joyce and her little son Michael alternated living in the Miller home and in the home of her husband’s parents until Jerry’s return from his mission. The young family lived briefly in San Francisco and Oakland in the years following, after which they returned to Utah where two more sons, Paul and Jeffery were born. Then, in 1962, Joyce and the family moved to American Samoa, where Jerry worked for three years as a teacher at a church owned and sponsored high school. A daughter, Tori, was born on the island. During that time Joyce served as Relief Society President, and enjoyed a great and loving association with both American and native-born Samoan sisters in her ward. She took great pride and joy in her service there. The family returned to Utah from American Samoa in 1965, and after a short stay in Utah, moved to Burns, Oregon, where Jerry taught at the local high school for one year. The family returned to Utah a year later, and within two years purchased a permanent home in Bountiful, Utah. In 1969, a second daughter, Vickie, was added to the family, bringing the family total to 5 children. Joyce loved to travel and the family went on many vacation excursions together, traversing the county in the family station wagon. There were also many wonderful family memories of camping trips, and wonderful weekends and holidays spent at the Weight family cabin in Wildwood in Provo Canyon. Joyce loved music and art, and loved to paint. In her ensuing years Joyce wrote and published a self-help book. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Donn, Dwain, Glen, Roy, and sister Reva (Houghton). Joyce is survived by children, Michael, Paul, Jeffery, Tori, and Vickie, plus 15 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, February 25, 2022 at the Winderbrook Ward Chapel, 4366 South 1500 East, Salt Lake City. Friends and family are gathered one hour prior to the services at the church at 10 a.m. Interment, Eastlawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo, Utah. Source.
