Richard retired from Hercules after 18 years service. He enjoyed the outdoors, visiting his cabin, and participating in activities there. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed living in St. George during the winter. Survived by his wife, LuDean Brown Christensen; sons: Greg L. (Sue) Christensen, West Jordan; Kim B. His step-father: Pender LeRoy Jennings, Jr., age 91, passed away January 19, 2004, at the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake. He was born November 7, 1912 in Saltillo, Texas to Pender LeRoy Jennings, Sr. and Maggie King. He married Melba Louise Bailey Brown in 1945. Pender entered the Navy as a Seaman Apprentice, and retired as a Commander. He was present at the signing of the treaty which ended World War II. He was a member of Retriever Club in the Great Salt Lake area and in the Northern Utah area. After his retirement, he sold real estate in Provo, and raised Field Trial Retrievers. Pender is survived by his daughter, Dallyne Brown [BYH Class of 1952] (David) Crowton of Torrey, Utah; eight grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; six great- great- grandchildren; and one sister, Elba Wilder of Mt. Viva Brown Stanger, 63, of Provo died Monday, December 1, 1997 at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. She was born January 10, 1934 in Colonia Chuichupe, Chichuahua Mexico (Mormon Colonies in Mexico), the daughter of Delbert Brigham and Irene Whetten Brown. She married Ronald Ray Stanger on October 4, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died May 12, 1994. When she was ten years old her family moved to the United States, living in first Arizona, then in Colorado, and finally settling in Provo, Utah in 1947. She attended the Farrer Junior High School and graduated from BY High. She also attended Brigham Young University. She worked with her husband Ron in his law practice in Provo for some 30 years. Viva was a homemaker and mother of five children. Her hobbies included music, gardening, scrapbooking, family history, and devoting countless hours to her family and church. She was a member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities including ward music leader and primary president. Survivors include four sons and one daughter: Ronald Allen Stanger, David Craig Stanger, Michael Ray Stanger, Robert Brown Stanger, Diane S. Wanda Brown Morley, 89, of Provo, Utah quietly slipped from her mortal sojourn on June 13, 2015 into the welcoming arms of her late husband, Stewart [also BYH Class of 1944]. She was surrounded by family. Wanda - wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma - was born in Provo, Utah to Paul (Pa) and Helen (Mom) Brown, February 10, 1926. She married her high school hero, Stewart, on April 1, 1945 in Overton, Nevada while he was serving in the Army Air Corps. Wanda and Stewart were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. A graduate of BY High School, Class of 1944, Wanda was active in many organizations and activities, notably as a drummer in the marching band. She later earned a nursing degree becoming an obstetrics Registered Nurse while raising eight children. A devoted wife and companion to her husband, together they lived in many locales during Dad’s tenure as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation including Dallas, Texas, Kansas City, Missouri, Minneapolis, Minnesota, San Francisco and Stockton, California, finally retiring to their home town of Provo, Utah in 1977. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wanda served in many capacities and callings including girl’s camp nurse. Wanda was preceded in death by husband, Stewart and brothers, Billie and Stanley. She is survived by eight children: Terry (Teena), Camille (Phil), Tony (Taia), John Edward (Mary), Isaac, Eric, Bradley (Carey), Becky; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great- grandchildren; and younger sisters, Pauline Knight and Helen Clegg. Class of 1944. Clyde Brunson. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS FATHER: Clyde Fackrell Brunson, 98, died in Modesto, California on March 14, 1996. He was born in Fillmore, Utah, November 27, 1897, the son of Charles Abraham and Christina Fackrell Brunson. He graduated from Fillmore High School and served in World War I. He graduated from the University of Utah and taught at the School for the Deaf and Mute in Ogden for four years. He married Rachel Mifflin in the Salt Lake Temple. He went to dental school at Northwestern University in Chicago, graduating with honors in 1931. He practiced dentistry in Fillmore, Utah, for about 10 years, and 35 years in Salt Lake City, where he had his office in the Tribune Building. After retiring they moved to Modesto, California about 1978. Rachel died in 1983. He had always been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his four sisters, Rachel Warner, Salt Lake City; Ruth Peterson, Lehi; Algie Stephenson, Fillmore, and Olive (Eldon) Partridge, Salt Lake City/Mesa, Ariz.; five children, Clyde M. Attended Trade Tech and became a draftsman. Also trained as a fireman. Worked for the Church for several years -- helped draw up plans for the Oakland Temple. Next employed by Provo City Fire Department for almost 25 years. Also taught fire science at Trade Tech. Adjunct for the National Fire Academy in Provo area as a representative of FEMA. Served as a local architect, designing over 400 jobs -- mostly home designs. Retired in 1989 as Battalion Chief. In 2004, kidneys failed, spend three days a week on a dialysis machine. With heart problems and a stroke, lost over 100 pounds. Best high school memories: The Bebop Choir that I participated in, directed by Brother Fred Webb. I was not a member of the Church when I started attending BY High, but your influence and the teaching shared with us in the religion classes brought about a major change in my life. Because of Brother Richard L. Cause of Death: "Faulty manufacturing." Bob had a lifetime of health challenges. Bob was born on January 9, 1937 in Salt Lake City to Robert Leonard Bryson and Bernice Elizabeth Condon Bryson. Bob was an only child raised by a most remarkable single mother. He attended military school in Colorado until he was in 10th grade when he returned to Provo and graduated from Brigham Young University High School in 1955. On April 4, 1958 Bob married the love of his life, for the last 52 years, Bonnie Hoover. He would laugh and tell the story that he "only married Bonnie because he thought that her family owned the Timpanogos Golf Course." Bonnie's father Wendell (Tuck) Hoover was the Course Superintendent. At that time, the Hoover family lived on the golf course. (The course superintendent's home really was on the course!!) Bob worked as a draftsman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints working on many projects including several chapels and the Oakland Temple. Bob continued to draw homes as an independent draftsman for several decades, drawing the plans for dozens of homes in Utah Valley. His drafting business was his second occupation. In October of 1964, he became a Provo City Firefighter and for the next 25 years he served the citizens of Provo. Bob drove the ambulance, was a paramedic, the Provo Fire Marshall, and ended his career as a Battalion Chief. After Bob retired he enjoyed/hated golf, fished with Tuck, and continued to draw homes. Recently, he liked to listen to the comings and goings of his children and grandchildren. Life was never easy for Bob. He faced down many challenges, leaving his friends and family with lessons and memories that will last a lifetime. Bob is survived by his wife, Bonnie, his two sons and their families: Brent and Virginia Bryson (son), Elizabeth (granddaughter), Blake and Kalani Bryson (grandson), Rebeccca (granddaughter), and Barry and Julie Bryson (son), Devyn (granddaughter), Grey (grandson), Devon (granddaughter). BYU MS Industrial Education 1963. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Howard Darnel Buckley (Shumway) was born July 22, 1940, in Tropic, Utah. He passed away on August 15, 2021, in Apple Valley, California. He was surrounded by family and friends as he left this mortal life. And he was welcomed by those who had been waiting for him beyond the veil. Howard was the last child born to James Howard and Lieuwen Savage Shumway. He had four siblings, Ronald, Sharon. Beth and Ardis. When he was a very young child he was adopted by William D. and Annie Wheelwright Buckley. Howard died of pancreatic cancer on August 15, 2021. He attended B Y Elementary, B Y Jr. High and Brigham Young High School, graduating in the Class of 1958. Howard played kickball in the blocked off 6th North street, alongside the elementary school. He played basketball on the asphalt just outside the school (the basket looked like an open tulip with no backboard on it). He played baseball in a field a couple of blocks north of school. In high school he excelled in academics and sports. He competed in all of the sports, but football was his favorite. He was small in stature and got knocked around a lot but that didn’t deter him. When Howard was a sophomore at BY High his seminary class took a trip to the Manti Temple and the temple permitted the small class of about 20 to have a special meeting in the temple just for the class. A few weeks before Howard’s passing he spoke of that “wonderful experience the class had in the temple. That the class met in the temple for hours being instructed by their seminary teacher, Melvin Brooks, and virtually everyone in that class bore their testimonies and feelings in that spiritual meeting.” Howard further expressed that it was “an experience that stayed with him his entire life and guided him through life’s many challenges and established his testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel.” After graduating from high school in 1958 he joined the Army Reserves for six months of active duty at Fort Ord, California, along with some of his best friends, Dee Sandgren, Bob Terry, Steve Nelson, John Whetten and Jim Wilde. All his life BYU Football was his passion as he watched his beloved Cougars play. He was an avid fan, following them wherever they played and whenever he could. He was known for driving all the way from California just to watch a game, and then return all the way back home the very next day. He was especially proud of the 1984 National Championship Game he attended in San Diego. Howard was a talented snow skier and won many championships himself. He was especially gifted at downhill racing and could compete against men half his age and showed them how it was done. He was such a great skier that his scholarship paid for his education at BYU. Howard met Diane Williams Buckley at BYU and married her in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had three children. Cassandra, Nicole and Howie. He also had five grandchildren. Howard and Diane were divorced and he later married Regina Lillquist Hudson. Regina had a son Trevor and a daughter Lisa and two grandsons, Preston and Nickolas, and they were welcomed by Howard. Howard was a gifted builder and he built every home he lived in over the years, each one bigger and better than the last. He also designed them all and built furniture for his homes and for others. He was a master craftsman. Howard discovered wind sailing later in life and it also became his passion. He went to Baha every January over the years and said he did so to “sail his brains out.” He looked forward to those trips like a child at Christmas. Howard was preceded in death by his birth parents, Howard and Lieuwen Shumway, and his adoptive parents, William and Annie Buckley. Also preceded in death by two life-long friends, Gar Jensen and Sherm Cloward. Howard’s funeral services were held on August 19, 2021, in Howard’s home ward in Apple Valley, California. Howard was a beloved friend by many. He was also buried next to his parents in the Provo City Cemetery. Many friends and family came from quite a distance to pay tribute to their life-long friend. It was a beautiful day and after the dedication of the grave by Terry Robbinet, the Cougar Fight Song was sung and everyone joined in the rousing chorus of “Rise and Shout.” Blue and white balloons were then released and they sailed all the way over the LaVell Edwards Stadium. It was hard to say goodbye to this beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He was a giant of a man, with a deep faith in God and a willingness to serve his fellow man. Class of 1957 ~ Honorary. John Buckley. He attended BYH but graduated elsewhere in 1957. He married Ursula. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: John C. Buckley passed way August 10, 2010. He was born July 14, 1939 in Provo, Utah, to John L. Buckley and Ada Minnie Conover "Connie" Buckley Birch. He retired from the Salt Lake City Fire Department after 23 years of service. He is survived by his children, Scott, Kirk, Kris, Earl, Brett, Reggie, Kurt, Vicki; grandchildren, Ryan, Jamie, Jennifer, James, Jonathan, Heather, Blake and Nicholas; great-grandchildren, Wheeler and Brodee; and his twin sister, Connie Buckley.
